Portillo
Just watched Michael Portillo on Newsnight. He was certainly emotional and probably a little tired. Interesting to see him describe the British people as "envious and resentful". So much for the former super-patriot with his SAS fantasies. It is interesting how resentful these members of the political classes are about the fact that they have been exposed as the sleazy hypocrites they are. What is interesting is that Portillo's identity as a member of the political classes seemed to be stronger than any party allegiance he may have.

Israel and Racism
The Israelis and their supporters treat the Palestinians as lower than dirt. The lives of their children are viewed as worthless. In Israel the non-Jews do not have the full rights of Jews. Yes, Israel is racist and so are many of its supporters. As a libertarian I support the right of those who want to support racists, but they should at least be honest.

A Cowardly Speaker
The post of Speaker is the ultimate protector of Parliament and of our liberties, some have died defending them. Yet what does the current disgrace do - he lets the police enter parliament to intimidate an opposition M.P. What a disgraceful Glaswegian lump.

Was it Ian Blair?
It is a strange coincidence that a Tory M.P. should be arrested on trumped-up Stalinesque charges on the last day in office of Labour's favourite copper. Perhaps Ian Blair decided to take his revenge!

Georgia
Georgian troops attack South Ossetia, indiscriminately killing and maiming civillians. The Russians intervene to defend those civillians and to uphiold the right of self-determination for the people of South Ossetia. How is that any different from the behaviour of Britain and the U.S.A. in Kosovo. If the U.S.A. does it, it is humanitarian, if Russia does it, it is bullying. No wonder the Russians think the Americans are hypocrites.

Conor McGinn
It waz Conor McGinn wot did it for Labour! The SNP have never really managed to take off in working-class catholic areas, but it has certainly done so now in Glasgow East. Did Conor McGinn's very public attacks on Labour as being "anti-catholic" (see politicalbetting.com ) swing the tide?

Ben Elton
I was disappointed but not surprised to see Dizzy praising Ben Elton on Muslims. Ben Elton was a Trotskyist who made his name by attacking comedians who made fun of things that he approved of. He was a great friend and defender of political correctness. Now he is singling out Muslims as worthy of being mocked. If he had actually praised freedom of expression in comedy generally then I would support him, but really he is just Muslim-bashing. So why is Dizzy so supportive?
